Highlights

GAO examined the quality of mail service provided by the Boston Post Office. GAO found that the Boston Post Office had not generally met the Postal Service's mail delivery standards. Significant quantities of first-class mail did not meet these standards because of mail processing delays and because mail was sent to wrong destinations due to sorting errors. In addition, mail processing labor force was significantly reduced during a period of increasing mail volume.
