[Department of State's Obligation of Expenses of Temporary Duty Travel Outside the Continental United States]

The Department of State's Inspector General requested an opinion regarding State's use of current fiscal year (FY) appropriations for all expenses of temporary duty travel outside the continental United States although travel did not occur until the subsequent FY. GAO held that State was authorized to use current FY appropriations for all expenses, including transportation and per diem, of temporary duty travel outside the continental United States if the travel was ordered and travel-related expenses were incurred in the current FY.
