This article, which appeared in the GAO Journal, No. 9, Summer 1990, discusses lessons learned from economic events occurring between 1980 and 1989, focusing on how those lessons could help the United States and other countries secure sustained noninflationary growth in national and international economic systems during the next decade. Topics discussed include: (1) inflation rates; (2) budget deficits; (3) international cooperation in economic and financial issues; and (4) developing nations' economic needs.
