The GAO Journal, No. 4, Winter 1988

This quarterly publication presents information relevant to GAO studies of reducing the federal budget. Articles focus on: (1) the status and future of the space program; (2) reducing the federal budget deficit; (3) the future of the Social Security system; (4) efforts to control defense spending; (5) the extent to which entitlements spending contributes to the budget deficit; (6) decisions on controlling research and development spending; (7) development of a test vehicle for a national aero-space plane; and (8) the investments necessary to keep most basic government programs on track.
