This article discusses techniques for managers of human resource information systems (HRIS) to use in order to meet management control objectives such as: (1) ensuring the validity and reliability of HRIS; (2) determining the legal constraints on and implications for use of HRIS; (3) ensuring system security; and (4) maintaining the system. Other topics discussed include: (1) the use of system-generated reports as decision support tools; (2) the need for system validation for each application; and (3) the skills required to manage HRIS effectively.
