Highlights

This article presented a technique for writing simulations of online searches to meet criteria requiring that: (1) a text should appear on the screen one letter at a time, at a speed low enough to be both readable and convincing; (2) there should be pauses while the system works on search statements, and intervals when many lines are displayed one after another without hesitation; (3) the system should wait for a response after a prompt; and (4) a response should appear on the screen at typing speed rather than communication speed, and should appear only when the instructor giving the demonstration is ready for it.
