Highlights

The Department of Agriculture requested a GAO opinion on whether it should reimburse a transferred employee for additional miscellaneous expenses since the employee had already received a miscellaneous expenses allowance. GAO noted that the employee: (1) received a travel authorization for the transportation of her family, transportation and temporary storage of her household goods, temporary quarters subsistence expenses, and a miscellaneous expenses allowance; and (2) moved her mobile home to her new permanent duty station. GAO held that the employee could be reimbursed for the transportation of a mobile home to a new duty station in lieu of expenses for shipment of household goods. Accordingly, the employee may be reimbursed for additional miscellaneous expenses.
