Auditing Data Communications

This article presents an overview of data communications with guidelines for auditors who are not trained sufficiently in analyzing and assessing data communications controls. These controls can be oriented to prevention, detection, or correction of errors and abuse. Controls for service bureau data communications systems are discussed, and new technological areas critical for a data communications audit are presented.
