Motivating Subordinates: Making It Work

This article, which appeared in the GAO Review, Vol. 20, Issue 3, Summer 1985, discusses successful management strategies, including: the maintenance of positive expectations for subordinates; the provision of feedback; and the matching of appropriate consequences with appropriate behaviors. The GAO Learning Center facility with its opportunities to develop or refine motivational skills is also described.
