Legislative Developments

This article, which appeared in the GAO Review, Vol. 20, Issue 1, Winter 1985, discussed congressional comments on the effectiveness of GAO, the new Deficit Reduction Act, guaranteed student loan tax-exempt bonds, the Medicare and Medicaid Budget Reconciliation Amendments of 1984, legislation which provided a statutory base for the procurement protest system, Congressional Budget Office and GAO budget estimate reviews, the proposed Women's Equity Act, and proposed legislation to protect beneficiaries under health care programs.
