GAO reviewed the General Services Administration's (GSA) Order MPB 1210.1 and found that it does not satisfy the requirements contained in applicable legislation. The Order does not provide a specific delegation of authority for cases concerning imprest fund losses of over $500 when a formal request for relief must be submitted to GAO. Should GSA wish to delegate this authority to some official, GAO suggests that an appropriate provision be added to the Order which would: (1) designate by title the official(s) authorized to act on behalf of the Administrator, and (2) specifically delegate to the designated official(s) the authority to make the administrative determinations required by the legislation and to submit requests for relief to GAO.
