The Acting Director of the National Science Foundation (NSF) requested concurrence in a proposal to pay post differential to employees assigned to duty in the Antarctic commencing on the first day of their arrival on that continent. Employees detailed to the Antarctic for periods of 1 to 3 months may not be issued permanent change of station orders for the sole purpose of entitling them to post differential payments from the date of arrival at the post. NSF should request the State Department to authorize retroactive payment of the differential for the first 42 days of the assignments.
