Eligibility for Variable Reenlistment Bonus

A decision was requested as to whether Corporal Robert W. Chastain was eligible for a variable reenlistment bonus incident to his reenlistment in which he requested a skill reassignment. The Marine Corps variable reenlistment bonus program is designed to retain qualified personnel in critical skill areas, and reassignment would deprive the service of the member's skills. In this circumstance, payment of the variable reenlistment bonus was denied.
