Proposed Amendments to Volume 1 of the Joint Travel Regulations

A decision was requested as to whether the Joint Travel Regulations could be amended to authorize the Secretaries of the uniformed services to extend the 1-year time limit for selection of a home upon retirement in deserving cases other than those now specified. The proposed revisions would not be contrary to the statutory language or congressional intent of Public Law 89-680. There was no objection to the proposed revision if the extension of the time limit is restricted to unforeseen events which prevent such a move and the extension is limited to a specific period of time.
