Highlights

The activities of GAO are reported for the fiscal year ended September 30, 1979. These activities included assistance to the Congress; auditing/evaluation; legal services and decisions; financial management improvement; settlement of claims; savings and other accomplishments; operating expenses; staffing; participation on Boards, Councils, and Commissions; and proposed legislation affecting GAO. Legislative reccomendations acted on by the Congress during the fiscal year, those made during the fiscal year, and open legislative recommendations from prior years are discussed. Financial savings and other benefits are presented. The appendixes contain the audit reports issued during the fiscal year, a summary of personnel assigned to congressional committees during the fiscal year, descriptions of major organizational units of GAO, and legislation enacted during the fiscal year relating to the work of GAO.
