Highlights

An appeal was made of a decision disallowing an employee's claim for reimbursement for an owner's title policy obtained incident to the purchase of a residence at his new duty station. The settlement statement on the residence showed that the amount claimed represented the cost of owner's title insurance covering the purchase price of the claimant's new residence. Regulations governing relocation allowances and entitlements for Federal employees state that the cost of a mortgage title policy paid for by the employee is reimbursable but costs of other types of insurance, such as an owner's title policy, are not reimbursable items of expense. The previous determination was sustained.
