In May 2019, we issued a report examining whether there are racial, ethnic, or gender disparities in the military justice system. Among other things, we found the military services do not collect consistent information on race, ethnicity, and gender making it more difficult to identify disparities.
The government buys a huge range of products and services, from military aircraft to common office supplies. We looked at how 7 leading companies manage procurement, and whether the federal government follows similar practices.
Federal agencies awarded small businesses almost $4 billion in FY 2019 to perform research and development and commercialize technologies. The Small Business Administration oversees the programs for making these awards, which are carried out by 11 agencies.
