Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction Office The Assistant Secretary for CWMD should specify, in the new strategic plan for the Global Nuclear Detection Architecture, steps to reconstitute the capability gap analysis function, a strategy for outreach to key stakeholders in reconstituting this function, and time frames for the completion of the capability gap assessments. Open – Partially Addressed

CWMD officials provided GAO with the Global Nuclear Detection Architecture (GNDA) strategy in December 2022. The strategy establishes several goals for CWMD to accomplish in fiscal years 2023 through 2027. These goals include analyzing the GNDA for vulnerabilities and capability gaps. According to the strategy, specific objectives under this goal include cataloging detection capabilities, updating existing assessments of capability gaps, and establishing priorities for addressing these gaps. The strategy identifies DHS as the lead for these objectives, but it does not say how DHS will conduct
