A transferred Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) employee claimed reimbursement for temporary quarters subsistence expenses he incurred beyond the period FBI authorized for such expenses, contending that he made diligent efforts to locate and purchase a residence. GAO held that: (1) FBI granted a 30-day extension beyond the initial 60-day period in recognition of the claimant's efforts to locate housing; and (2) there was no evidence that the FBI refusal to grant additional extension was arbitrary, capricious, or an abuse of discretion. Accordingly, the claim was denied.
