Pursuant to a congressional request, GAO provided information on the management challenges and problems facing the federal government.
GAO noted that the notebook contains information on: (1) troubled information technology efforts; (2) serious management problems affecting major agencies; (3) selected program areas that are potentially duplicative or fragmented; (4) result-oriented approaches to regulatory efforts that could help address pressing regulatory reform issues; (5) federal activities that have been raised as possible candidates for privatization or devolution to state or local governments; (6) the status of issues listed in GAO's high-risk series of reports; and (7) an update on the items listed in GAO's most recent report on deficit reduction options.
