Pursuant to a congressional request, GAO provided information on its fiscal year (FY) 1992 products, ongoing work, and other activities regarding older Americans.

GAO noted that its FY 1992 activities: (1) covered such issues as income security, health care, housing, social services, employment, and veterans services; (2) included 39 reports on policies and programs directly primarily at the elderly; (3) included 56 reports in which the elderly were one of several target groups for specific federal policies; and (4) included 49 testimonies on subjects that primarily affected the elderly. GAO also noted that: (1) as of September 1992, it had 128 ongoing studies directly related to older Americans; and (2) health and income security were the main issues addressed that affected both older Americans and other groups.
