An employee of the General Services Administration filed a claim for temporary quarters subsistence expenses. He was transferred and rented a home that he intended to buy at the new duty station. The employee pointed out that he saved the Government the costs of lodging, meals, and the storage of his household goods. An employee is not entitled to reimbursement of temporary quarters subsistence expenses for the rental of a home which he intends to purchase as his permanent residence, even though the final settlement of the purchase has not taken place. This rule applies even though the occupancy of the purchased quarters saves money for the Government. Accordingly, the claim was denied.
