The Federal Home Loan Bank Board requested an advance decision as to the documentation required to be shown on the travel vouchers of field examiners. Two questions were presented: (1) can the field examiners who report to the same savings and loan institution for extended temporary duty assignments state the time of their departure and return to their residence only once, rather than repeating the information for every day of travel; and (2) can an employee list the mileage required for such repetitive travel once, rather than listing the same number of miles driven for each day of travel. The traveler's time of departure and arrival must be shown on the travel voucher. Any request for a change in this requirement should be directed to the General Services Administration which has the responsibility under the law for issuing the Federal Travel Regulations and amendments thereto. However, GAO has held that an employee who performs repetitive trips of the identical length need not list the odometer readings for each trip, but only has to give the information once.
