Certification of Voucher Payment for Excess Baggage Transportation by Air
B-118904: Jun 29, 1954
- Full Report:
The Civil Aeronautics Administration requested GAO's opinion regarding the certification of a payment voucher for travel costs by an employee and his dependents. The voucher was representative of the costs which would have been incurred for travel by air with 50 pounds of excess baggage, although the employee's wife chose to travel via personal automobile. The Civil Aeronautics Administration asked if the excess baggage costs could be appropriately included in the comparative cost statement for travel.
GAO determined that since excess baggage of 50 pounds for each dependent was authorized in the travel order for travel by air and the employee had furnished a statement that personal effects of approximately 400 pounds were transported by his wife by privately owned automobile, inclusion in the comparative cost statement of an amount representing the cost of excess baggage, not to exceed the maximum as provided in the travel order, was proper.
