[Request for Decision Concerning NPS Employee's Claim for Reimbursement for Towing and Repair Charges]

The National Park Service (NPS) requested a decision concerning an employee's entitlement to reimbursement for towing and repair charges for a rented vehicle where he was unable to obtain prior approval from the rental company for the repairs. GAO held that the: (1) employee was engaged in official business when he incurred the expenses; and (2) vehicle was essential for him to complete his mission. Accordingly, the claim was allowed.
