[Decision Concerning Labor Employee's Entitlement to Temporary Quarters Subsistence Expenses]
B-224688: Jun 8, 1987
- Full Report:
The Department of Labor requested a decision concerning a transferred employee's entitlement to temporary quarters subsistence expenses. GAO held that: (1) the claimant did not sufficiently itemize family lodging expenses to support his claim; (2) Labor reasonably evaluated the amounts spent for lodging and meals based on living costs in similar geographical locations; (3) Labor properly limited the employee's subsistence allowance to an amount prorated on bulk food purchases, since his travel voucher did not support his claim for reimbursement for restaurant meals or food prepared in-quarters; and (4) the employee should resubmit his claim with the necessary information. Accordingly, if the claimant fails to provide the additional information, the claim should be denied.
