The protester requested relief from a mistake in its bid on a timber sale. Despite bidding patterns experienced by the Forest Service indicating wide variation in bid prices for timber, the contracting officer was on notice of the possibility of a mistake since the contractor's bid was more than twice the appraisal price on some items and since the total price bid was 25 percent higher than the next highest bid. Payment should be made at the contractor's intended bid price or in an amount no less than the next highest bid, whichever is higher.
