Residence Transaction Expenses

The Executive of the Per Diem, Travel, and Transportation Allowance Committee of the Department of Defense, requested a decision with regard to a claim for reimbursement of certain expenses incurred in connection with the sale of an employee's former residence incident to a permanent change of station. Legal fees for the preparation of documents necessary to the sale or otherwise customary in the area of the sale were paid since the employee was absent from the settlement. Reimbursement for charges personal to the employee, including wiring money from the proceeds of the sale, was denied. Long-distance telephone calls relating to negotiations prior to settlement were reimbursed as miscellaneous expenses.
