Applicability of Statute of Limitations
B-197984: Jun 11, 1980
- Full Report:
As a result of a decision in which the collection of excess weight costs for a shipment of household goods was deemed proper, a retired Air Force officer asked if a statute of limitations existed which would preclude the government's asserting a claim against him in the future. Legislation imposes a 6-year statute of limitations on actions brought by the United States to recover money erroneously paid to a federal employee or member of the uniformed service.
