Federal Supplemental Funding for Zika Response Activities

Over 37,000 cases of the Zika virus have been reported in U.S. territories as of September 27, 2017—primarily in Puerto Rico. Additionally, over 5,000 cases of the Zika virus have been reported in the United States. The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) received $932 million from the Zika Response and Preparedness Act (also known as Zika supplemental funding). Some of these funds were distributed to state and local organizations, such as county and city health departments, for activities like mosquito control efforts and monitoring programs for pregnant women and infants.

This interactive map shows the amount of funding each U.S. state and territory received from HHS agencies, as well as the number of laboratory-confirmed, symptomatic Zika virus disease cases reported, from calendar year 2015 through September 27, 2017. The total amount of funding received by each territory also includes funding awarded to non-governmental entities that focus on activities within that territory. If the non-governmental entity's award focuses on more than one territory, that funding is not included. Funds awarded through the Public Health Emergency Preparedness cooperative agreement are not included.

The numbers of Zika cases are from the CDC's website, which did not include data for the Federated States of Micronesia, Guam, Marshall Islands, Northern Mariana Islands, or Palau.
