Related GAO Work: Presidential and Congressional Transition Released: November 2016 Hello, I'm Chris Mihm, Managing Director of Strategic Issues here at the Government Accountability Office. As part of GAO's efforts to provide information for leaders during the Presidential and congressional transitions, we've prepared a Management Agenda to inform new leaders of the critical management challenges that must be confronted to improve government operations and results across the board. The Management Agenda focuses on challenges in eight vital areas: Managing finances to improve the nation's fiscal condition, managing acquisitions to maximize cost savings and performance, developing and managing information technology to meet government's needs, strengthening Cybersecurity over sensitive data and protecting critical infrastructure, strengthening human capital capabilities to enhance performance, enhancing collaboration between federal agencies, and among different levels of government, to achieve national outcomes, measuring and improving federal agency performance to better achieve results, and promoting transparency and open government to enhance civic engagement and foster innovation. Attention to these areas can help address existing problems and can also ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of any new policies and programs going forward. The Management Agenda webpage distills thousands of GAO reports and recommendations to help leaders focus on specific challenges and then take the actions needed. In addition, anyone who desires more detailed information on any of the challenges we outlined can use the Management Agenda to access related GAO work and talk to key GAO experts. We hope this tool makes it easier for our leaders to improve the management and operations of the federal government.
