My name is Nikki Clowers, and I'm Managing Director of GAO's Health Care Team. Today, we issue a new report examining the federal government's response to COVID-19. Among other things, we found that although the government has taken action to address medical supply shortages, we continue to face shortages of personal protective equipment and testing supplies. We also found that the IRS and Treasury still do not know how many people are waiting for economic assistance, which could potentially place millions of individuals at risk for missing payments. We made 16 recommendations to improve the federal government's response to COVID-19, and better prepare the government for future challenges. To find out more, check out our report at GAO.gov.
