Barbara Bovbjerg is the Managing Director of the Education, Workforce and Income Security team. The team examines programs and policies supporting Americans of all ages, from early childhood, K-12 and higher education through programs supporting lower earners and all workers, especially those experiencing unemployment, disability or workplace dangers. The team also evaluates programs seeking to support veterans re-entering civilian life and examines the provision and adequacy of retirement income benefits. 

Barbara joined GAO in January 1990. Prior to her position as Managing Director, she directed GAO work on retirement income, and before that focused on budget policy issues.

Barbara earned a master’s degree in regional planning from Cornell University and a bachelor’s degree from Oberlin College.
