Short Description Provides grants to not-for-profit institutions and for-profit firms (provided no fees are charged for services), state and local governments, housing authorities, federally recognized Indian tribes, and colleges and universities located in the United States. The grants help recipients to develop, demonstrate, and evaluate cost-effective, preventive measures to correct multiple residential safety and health hazards that produce diseases and injuries in children and other sensitive subgroups such as the elderly, with a particular focus on low-income households. Grants focus on researching and demonstrating low-cost, effective home hazard assessment and intervention methods, as well as public education that stresses ways in which communities can mitigate housing-related hazards.
