Section 504 Direct Housing Loans and Grants for Natural Disasters

Short Description Provides assistance to rural families with very low or low incomes that have been affected by a natural disaster to buy, build, rehabilitate, or improve housing in rural areas. Funds are available only when the Federal Emergency Management Agency does not provide assistance. Assistance is restricted to areas identified in a presidential disaster declaration, with Congress determining the total amount of emergency funds that will be available. Applicants must own and occupy the home in a rural area. Loan recipients must have sufficient income to repay the loan. Grant recipients must be 62 years of age or older and be unable to repay a loan for that part of the assistance received as a grant.
