Native Hawaiian Housing Block Grant Program (NHHBG)

Short Description Authorizes HUD to provide block grant housing assistance to the State of Hawaii's Department of Hawaiian Home Lands (DHHL) to carry out affordable housing activities for Native Hawaiian families. NHHBG funds are provided to the DHHL, the sole eligible grant recipient. The use of NHHBG funds is limited to eligible affordable housing activities for low-income (not exceeding 80 percent of the area median income) Native Hawaiians eligible to reside on Hawaiian home lands. Eligible activities include new construction, rehabilitation, acquisition, infrastructure, and various support services. To qualify for an annual grant, DHHL is required to submit proposed activities in an annual Native Hawaiian Housing Plan for HUD for review; funds may only be used for eligible activities that are consistent with the DHHL housing plan.
