Survey on FAA Aviation Safety Inspector Training
(GAO-05-704SP)

Introduction

Welcome to the Survey on the FAA Aviation Safety Inspector Training. The U.S. Congress wants to understand whether FAA Aviation Safety Inspectors, like you, receive the technical training needed to keep pace with changing technology, your job responsibilities and to help keep America's airspace safe for the traveling public and for the movement of goods. It has directed the Government Accountability Office (GAO), an independent agency that gathers and analyzes information for Congress, to assess the actions taken by FAA to ensure that its safety inspectors receive necessary technical training.

Our Web-based survey is voluntary. It is being distributed to a random sample of approximately 500 safety inspectors. The survey will allow us to examine the perspectives of safety inspectors on the type, adequacy, and currency of the technical training you receive and where you received it. We plan to issue a report on this matter in calendar year 2005.

As mentioned in our notification e-mail, if you haven't had a chance to review your current training profile or string courses and your training history for the past 2 years, we encourage you to print them out or obtain a copy from your training manager before you start. Your review will make it easier for you to respond to the questions.

We understand that there are great demands on your time. However, your participation in our study is essential for us to be able to provide an assessment of FAA's technical training to Congress. The survey will take about 20 minutes to complete. Please complete the survey within 2 weeks of receipt. We appreciate your time and effort.
