Federally Funded Research at Institutions of Higher Education
(GAO-04-223SP)

U.S. General Accounting Office

The U.S. General Accounting Office (GAO), an agency of the U.S. Congress, is surveying universities that receive federal research funds about their policies concerning (1) making the results of federally funded research available to the public without delays, and (2) managing financial conflicts of interest that could affect research results. In addition, we are asking whether access to data from federally funded research has been requested through the Freedom of Information Act.

We are conducting this study at the request of Senator Richard Shelby.
