Performance Appraisal System for Administrative Professional and Support Staff
SP-00-3, Dec 1, 1999
Contact:
GAO provided its performance appraisal system for the administrative professional and support staff to provide a systematic and uniform method to evaluate job performance of GAO's General Schedule and Wage System staff on the basis of job-related criteria. GAO noted that the system should be used to: (1) help employees understand their responsibilities and how their work supports GAO's core values and contributes to GAO's strategic objectives and goals; (2) prepare honest performance assessments based on accurate and consistent application of the performance standards; (3) provide candid and specific feedback to employees on how well they are meeting expectations and on ways to improve performance; (4) help supervisors and managers recognize and deal with performance problems; (5) provide a basis for performance-based actions; and (6) provide instructions and performance appraisal materials for three performance dimension subsystems: (a) general schedule (GS) positions; (b) Secretary GS-318 and Office Automation Clerk/Assistant GS-326; and (c) wage system positions.
