A Descriptive Compendium
RCED-93-19FS, Nov 27, 1992
Pursuant to a congressional request, GAO provided information on the Department of Agriculture's (USDA) revenues from nonfederal sources for its products and services, focusing on: (1) USDA agencies that collect the revenues; and (2) the amount of revenues USDA collected.
GAO found that: (1) information on USDA revenues was not readily available because it was not centrally maintained, and was described in terms of funds received, such as reimbursables or user fees, rather than in products; (2) six USDA agencies collected 99 percent of revenues from nonfederal sources, with the Forest Service collecting 79 percent of the total revenues; and (3) in fiscal year 1992, USDA collected approximately $1.85 billion from nonfederal sources. GAO presented a detailed description of various nonfederal revenue sources.
