- Full Report:
GAO presented material for consideration in preparation of the Senate Small Business Committee's views and estimates report on the President's fiscal year 1984 budget proposals.
GAO noted that, in the administration's efforts to restrain Federal spending and emphasize program reforms, the budget proposal for appropriation accounts and budget functions under the committee's jurisdiction reflects a decrease of $469 million in outlays and an increase of $333 million in budget authority. Further, spending for small business assistance programs will decrease to provide more credit for private businesses as a method to stabilize financial markets, lower interest rates, eliminate burdensome regulations, and reduce inflation.
