Highlights

Under the Congressional Budget and Impoundment Control Act of 1974, the Comptroller General is required to develop and maintain standard classifications for fiscal, budgetary, and program-related information, and assist congressional committees in developing their information needs. From information obtained from the executive agencies, GAO has attempted to identify all the federal programs and activities within each committee's legislative jurisdiction. To a large extent, the information has been verified by committee representatives and executive agency officials. The authorizing legislation, budgetary information, and funding expiration date are included for each program. The budget data are provided for fiscal years 1979 (actual), 1980 (estimate), and 1981 (President's budget request).
