Pursuant to a legislative requirement, GAO reviewed the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) new rule on the use of the 220-222 megahertz (MHz) band by private land mobile radio service. GAO noted that: (1) the final rule would govern the future operation and licensing of the 220-222 MHz band as part of the FCC's implementation of the regulatory framework for mobile radio services enacted by Congress; and (2) FCC complied with applicable requirements in promulgating the rule.
