GAO updated its compilation of historical information and statistics regarding rescissions proposed by the Executive branch and enacted by Congress.
GAO found that: (1) from fiscal year (FY) 1974 to FY 1993, the Executive Branch proposed 1,012 rescissions totalling almost $69.3 billion, of which Congress accepted and enacted 350 rescissions totalling almost $21.4 billion; (2) Congress enacted another 490 rescissions totalling almost $65.2 billion; and (3) the Reagan Administration proposed the most rescissions and had the most enacted.
