GAO reported on its activities for fiscal year 1997. GAO: (1) summarized its work on major issues such as defense aquisitions, housing, tax administration, disability benefit programs, government management, federal information and financial management systems, health care issues, and international relations; (2) highlighted selected reports and testimony on these and other issues including aviation safety and security and the environment; (3) commented on operational and financial performance; and (4) provided its financial statements and independent auditors' report for fiscal years 1996 and 1997.
