Pursuant to a congressional request, GAO summarized issues relating to housing and community development.

GAO noted that housing and community development issues included: (1) providing affordable housing for the nation's poor; (2) strengthening the Department of Housing and Urban Development's management; (3) controlling housing loan and lead-based paint cost exposure; (4) promoting community development; and (5) reexamining strategies for responding to disasters.
