Pursuant to a congressional request, GAO reviewed future plans for revitalizing the Arms Control and Disarmament Agency (ACDA). GAO noted that: (1) the President announced that ACDA would be revitalized following the recommendations of two independent studies which concluded that a strengthened and independent ACDA would best serve U.S. arms control interests; and (2) it would not evaluate or comment on the merits of the recommendations until revitalization plans have been announced.
