Highlights

In response to a congressional request, GAO provided information on ways the Department of Defense (DOD) can prevent further inventory management problems. GAO noted that although DOD has: (1) agreed with previous GAO recommendations relating to inventory management improvements, DOD does not agree with recent recommendations aimed at recognizing and reporting excessive inventory as a step in minimizing excess and addressing other inventory management problems; (2) concurred with GAO recommendations to address the acceptance of defective items, it has not completed all the corrective actions required to alleviate this problem; and (3) made some progress in improving its inventory management, congressional oversight is warranted.
