Air Force Captain Charles E. Darr was reported missing after his plane was shot down over Hanoi on December 21, 1972 and his wife requested Department of Defense documents related to the matter. Some documents were denied her and the documents that were provided had some parts deleted. A review by GAO of the 16 documents involved showed that the 11 denied documents contained uncorrelated materials and contained information from non-American sources about prisoner-of-war camps in Vietnam. The deleted portions of the five correlated documents referred to matters such as deployment concept, target areas, tactics, and the like.
