Pursuant to a congressional request, GAO provided information on the Air Force's information technology obligations for fiscal years (FY) 1986 through 1990.

GAO found that: (1) information technology obligations ranged from about $2.43 billion in FY 1986 to an estimated $2.77 billion for FY 1990; (2) the Air Force's operation and maintenance appropriation account received most information technology obligations; and (3) the Air Force expended the most funds in its commercial services expenditure category, followed by personnel, capital investment, other services, and rental categories.
